This Privacy Policy explains what information Backyard Shenanigans (“we”, “us”) collects when you use our website to browse and reserve party rentals, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
We collect information you provide and information generated as you use the service:
- Account information: your name, email address, phone number, and password (stored only as a secure hash).
- Reservation details: the items you rent, event and return dates, delivery or pickup choice, and delivery address.
- Identity verification: a photo of your government-issued ID, collected at checkout to verify renters.
- Payment information: payments are processed by our payment provider (Stripe). We do not store your full card number — only the payment amount, status, and a reference token.
- Signed agreements: your rental waiver, signed electronically through DocuSign.
- Technical data: session/authentication tokens needed to keep you signed in.
How we use your information
- To create and manage your account and reservations.
- To process payments, deposits, and any remaining balance.
- To verify your identity and collect a signed rental waiver.
- To calculate delivery eligibility and fees for your address.
- To send transactional emails (confirmations, reminders, updates).
- To operate, secure, and improve the service, and to comply with law.
How we share your information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run the platform, and only as needed:
- Stripe — payment processing.
- DocuSign — electronic signing of your rental waiver.
- Google Maps — delivery address distance/eligibility.
- Email provider — sending transactional emails.
We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights, safety, and property.
Your ID photo & sensitive data
Government ID photos and signed waiver documents are stored privately on our own servers, never made public, and are accessed only by authorized staff to verify a rental. Access is granted through short-lived, single-use links. We retain these only as long as needed for the rental and our legal/record-keeping obligations, then delete them.
Cookies & sessions
We use a secure, HttpOnly cookie to keep you signed in. We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.
Data retention
We keep your account and reservation records for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service and meet legal requirements. You can request deletion of your account (see below).
Your choices & rights
- Access or update your profile information from your account.
- Request a copy or deletion of your personal data by contacting us.
- Unsubscribe from non-essential emails at any time.
Security
We protect your data with encryption in transit (HTTPS), hashed passwords, access controls, and rate limiting. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work hard to safeguard your information.
Children
Our service is intended for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will revise the “Last updated” date above when we do.
